How To Hit a Quick Ball

Quick ball hitting is as spectacular to watch as it is to execute provided it is done correctly. It requires consistent and accurate passing and setting skills as much as great timing on the part of the hitter. So if you are attempting to learn quick ball hitting make sure your setter is up to scratch.

As a hitter, you need to start your approach just as the passer makes contact with the ball. Watch the ball trajectory as it flies from the passer to the setter. As the ball nears the setter, make your approach and jump about 2 feet from the setter. Remember to approach the setter and not some arbitrary position on the net.

The single most important thing about quick ball hitting is for the hitter to be in the air before the setter contacts the ball. This gives you sufficient time to swing but more importantly it gives the setter a target to aim for. If your setter is any good, he or she should accurately place the ball just in front of your hitting shoulder.

For a quick ball to be deadly effective it is vital that both the setter’s ball release and that the hitter’s arm swing and follow through are quick. The faster you can execute the hit, the better your chance of beating the blockers. Most quick balls are hit near the middle of the court as an unexpected quick ball often occurs against a single blocker or no blockers at all.

Also note that power for this hit is less important than speed so don’t be tempted to go for a long swing. Keeping your arm swing shot and quick will deliver better success.
